Practical...Tactical...Realistic...Defensible "Trainer" Training!
Our
forty hour TRAIN-THE-TRAINER course provides instruction for those
officers and trainers tasked with training other officers to defend
against physical assault as well as restraining suspects. Additionally, instructor-candidates are
presented and expected to practice the latest in physical skills
training theory and lesson plan documentation. Documentation of force
training, in combination with all of the skills and mastery of the
course topics, sets this training apart from all others of its type.
Participants regularly tell us we pack more into our courses than any
three other similar training programs. We do that because we are
dedicated to creating the most highly competent instructor we possibly
can in the shortest amount of time. This decreases your costs both
directly through lowered tuition and per diem costs, as well as
indirectly through back-filling vacant positions and saving overtime
costs normally associated with training.
A "Revolutionary"
Defense Concept
The
course centers upon "Effective Combatives Problem-Solving"©
featuring the "Universal Laws and Principles of Defense."©
These rules and principles are the
foundation of all effective fighting. This truly universal and
revolutionary concept forms the basis for what we call
"Effective Combatives
Problem-Solving."
In-depth explanations of why the Universal Laws and Principles of
Defense© are the basis of all successful physical defense
solutions are offered, trained, and practiced. They work in all defense
and control situations because they are the foundation of all physical
conflict resolution.
We
don't teach the tired--and extremely ineffective--concept of
"techniques." Techniques are simply specialized defenses to
specific attacks applied in specific perfect circumstance. Because
perfect circumstances are rarely--if ever-- encountered in the field,
police defensive tactics techniques regularly fail. Besides, ask
any average officer if he or she regularly is able to apply any
technique they ever learned on an actively resisting suspect, and you
will regularly be told that their trained techniques usually work well
on compliant individuals (and other officers in training), but fall apart
the moment anyone resists.
Therefore, we abandon any version of specific technical training.
Simply
put: there are no techniques taught in
this system.
Instead, we provide simple-to-learn, simple-to-employ skills that are
not dependent upon any other circumstance, and combine them with
universal rules and principles based on the natural reflexes and instincts that have helped humans survive since
human beings began. There is nothing to memorize and then forget
in a month's time. There is no single "right way" to conclude
any defense or control situation. We measure success in any
defense situation by the following inflexible standards:
-
Did
the officer survive (preferably uninjured)?
-
Was
the officer able to take the subject into custody?
-
Did
the outcome of the incident meet constitutional, legal, and policy
standards?
If the
answer to each of these is "yes," then the officer did
his/her job, and we did ours.
Techniques fail officers regularly (what officer can say that his or
her wrist-restraint technique works the majority of the time the
suspect resists--or even at all?). Instead, we teach officers to do what
officers do best: problem-solve with force response within a
constitutional framework.
We
teach police professionals, who routinely solve life-and-death
problems that others cannot, an effective problem-solving method of
officer defense and suspect control that is applicable to every
officer. Average officers who practice little and generally
remember almost nothing of their complicated, martial arts-intensive
training appreciate it for its simplicity and common-sensical approach
to increasing their ability to effectively put hands on a resistive or
even combative subject. Highly trained officers appreciate the
depth of the system in answering questions of why they have been
successfully performing--and for increasing their abilities to apply
their previous training. Big, small, strong or weak, highly
trained or relatively not trained...all benefit greatly from our
problem-solving approach.
How the Course Works
The
Effective Combatives Problem-Solving: Train-the-Trainer course is highly structured in
its concept, with each block of instruction building on the foundation
of all physical conflict problem-solving: the Universal
Rules and Principles of Defense.© As the new instructor
learns the concepts involved with Defensive Tactics, and then teaches
it, that individual creates the foundation for Police GroundDefense
training. Police GroundDefense leads to Arrest & Control, which leads to
Real-World Weapon Retention, and so on through the entire course.
Once the instructor-candidate adopts the "Effective Combatives
Problem-Solving" concept, there is little instruction needed for
additional topics because the entire system is essentially contained
within the Universal Laws and Principles of Defense.©
Frankly, the most difficult aspect of our job in training new
instructors is to get out of the mind-set that complicated or precise
“techniques” are needed - or even useful - to resolve physical conflict
problems. By early mid-week, it is a wonderful experience to see the
“light bulbs flashing” all over the training floor as the instructor-candidates begin on their own to apply the
Universal Laws and Principles of Defense© to
solve a problem. By day four, the word “technique” is quickly being
erased from their vocabulary. The most rewarding teaching experience
we have ever had was during one particular skills testing when
five candidates simultaneously reacted to the test problem, with each
instructor-candidate successfully resolving the situation
differently -
with
none of their solutions demonstrated by instructional staff. The candidates each problem-solved with the Universal
Laws and
Principles of Defense© during the examination to reach a
reasonable conclusion--this is the whole point of the training.
Officers in real life problem-solve through difficult situations every
day--we successfully extend that into the realm of defensive tactics
and the use of force.
This course brings outstanding
instructional skill to subject control and officer
defense in a simple format that is constitutionally-based, effective, and easy to
apply for every officer in your agency.

Instructor Examination
Process:
Successful candidates pass three separate examinations. A written
examination covering the legal aspects of force employment by police
is taken on Thursday. Candidates must pass this listing/short answer
examination at 100% mastery. This reflects every officer’s need to be
right every time in the employment of force during arrest. Friday is
the main testing day, with any remediation of the written examination
performed at the start of business. A training skills examination as
well as a practical application skills examination must be passed to
be certified.
The Highest Evolution
of Law Enforcement Instructor/
TRAIN-THE-TRAINER Training
CUTTING
EDGE TRAINING
provides
the highest evolution of instructor training yet to be devised.
We can boldly say this because we have devoted years to the evolution
of how we train the trainers of law enforcement. We were
perplexed that all instructor classes seem to be simply advanced user
classes where the participant was expected to fully master the
material, teach for five to fifteen minutes at the end of the seminar, and then receive an
instructor certificate. We have worked and changed and
fine-tuned our train-the-trainer process until we have what is now the
finest method of teaching your trainers to be coaches and leaders in
the classroom, mat room, and live-fire range.
This completely different
process of bringing ordinary officers into the category of "competent
police trainer" is something you'd expect from
CUTTING
EDGE TRAINING.
We are the original, and, so far, the only police trainers to
bring you training that is:
-
Outcome-based:
There are no techniques trained in our system...only "Effective
Combatives Problem-Solving"©
featuring the "Universal Rules and Principles of Defense."©
The only determination of whether the officer's method of defense and
control was "correct" is that the officer was not injured and
survived, and his/her force response was legally reasonable and within
policy.
-
Gross-motor skills
dependent: We are the only system that depends solely upon
gross-motor skills in our combatives problem-solving efforts.
-
Non-Technical:
"Techniques" are fine-motor skills that routinely fail in the street.
We teach no techniques because techniques only work against willing
police officers on the mat and small children. Instead, we teach
you to solve your combatives problems using naturally hard-wired
solutions that are easy for every officer, regardless of level of
ability.
This Train-The-Trainer course is the
premier "instructor-certification" program for your agency trainers to learn how to
train your officers in the reasonable and effective
force response and
suspect control.
Recertification Program for
Instructors If any individual who has been
certified as an instructor wishes to attend the course again to become
aware of the many changes and updates to the Universal Defense Systems
program, we offer a significant tuition discount. Contact us for
the current discount rate. We look forward to seeing you again!
NOTE: There are NO recertification
requirements by CUTTING EDGE TRAINING
for instructors. We believe recertification requirements by
other systems are simply an income-generating scheme designed to
separate officers and their agencies from their training dollars.
"Recertification" is and should be a voluntary training activity by
those who seek to deepen their understanding of the course material
offered. Cutting Edge Training, LLC, offers its past
instructors 50% discounts on any instructor/Train-the-Trainer
tuition they wish to attend in order to refresh or deepen their
understanding of "Effective Combatives Problem-Solving"© through the
Universal Rules and Principles of Defense.© |
