Focus: All Corrections Officers
Length: 16 hours
Corrections officers have a real disadvantage over their patrol
counterparts…while the patrol officer has access to many police tools
and weapons, including the use of a firearm, corrections officers are
often limited to the use of empty-hand control methods and OC spray.
Additionally, they work in a high-stress environment where every
person they contact is a either an adjudicated criminal or a person
arrested on probable cause. It is not uncommon for corrections
personnel to have one or more physical confrontations per shift.
This training course relies upon the
Universal Laws and
Principles of Defense© to provide the average corrections
officer with the training needed in this environment to safely and
justifiably use force to protect the safety of corrections personnel
and ensure order in the corrections environment. Topics include:
-
Constitutional Limits to
the Use of Police Force (this is needed to place the curriculum in a
legally acceptable context, reinforcing our participants’ reasonable
force conduct and their ability to articulate their actions when
they return to duty).
-
Skills development.
-
Defensive tactics.
-
Arrest & control.
-
Knife defense.
-
Ground fighting.
-
Multiple officer
takedowns.
