For over 30 years, CUTTING EDGE TRAINING has researched how a knife is used to kill and injure another human being in a combat environment . This research involved the veterans of WWII, Korea, Vietnam, as well as other less- or unpublicized conflicts to determine exactly how a knife is actually employed in a combative situation, absent Hollywood and martial arts influences. Extensive research into knife attacks in correctional settings, as well as the police experience was combined to create an unsurpassed model of what humans actually do when employing sharpened steel to overcome an enemy—and it is not what most "knife training" courses would have us believe.

CUTTING EDGE TRAINING, LLC, provides the only basic-to-advanced knife employment training based upon the reality of an essential task skill for the infantryman’s and/or the Spec-Ops operator. Rather than a one-in-a-million (never gonna happen) sentry removal strategy, or dubious "knife-on-knife" fantasies reserved for prisons and dirt-bag bars, CUTTING EDGE TRAINING’s  military knife class emphasizes the quick de-animation of the enemy combatant using a proven, integrated method of negatively multi-tasking the subject and overwhelming his defenses. If a situation has deteriorated to the point where a knife is the only viable weapon, it must be utilized in a manner quickly permitting the operator or infantryman to dispose of any aggressive enemy in order to stabilize the situation, even if only for the moment, and allow the operator or infantryman the opportunity to obtain and utilize other more effective weapons as necessary.

CUTTING EDGE TRAINING has developed and implemented a training strategy for the military environment that integrates the most simple, yet sophisticated Close Quarters Combat with the knife. The strategy is simple: effectively multi-task the enemy with a series of negative choices—every choice the enemy makes to relieve or defend against an attack leaves another unanswered. The enemy is quickly overwhelmed and his ability to respond or attack is stopped.  How the soldier is taught to implement this multi-tasking is the brilliance of this training because it is so incredibly effective while simultaneously being incredibly simple.

Like all CUTTING EDGE TRAINING courses, we teach "Effective Combatives Problem-Solving"© to resolve any CQB problem.  This is the only training philosophy that provides the user with sufficient flexibility to meet any CQB need.  Participants learn the basics of knife handling, human vulnerabilities to the knife, real-world defense against the knife, and multi-tasking within the Combative Problem-Solving environment.  This training addresses the need of the soldier in every environment in which combat takes place, including cold weather (and water, if requested). 

Our "Real-World GroundCombatives" philosophy differs from other training providers--we don't teach tournament jujitsu or wrestling techniques.  We know from real-life applications that troops, unless intensively trained (years of individually motivated training), even elite operators, will not apply these specialized skills in combat.  Instead, they will revert to primitive, schoolyard methods of surviving.  We teach a "combat-oriented" approach to GroundCombatives that also includes the knife as a solution to this problem--this is real-world solutions to your very real-world needs.

If your primary weapon goes down for any reason, it is preferable to (and training should support) transition to your sidearm--and this solution includes those instances when the enemy is inside the muzzle of your primary weapon.  However, if this is not possible, the knife has proven itself to be a life-saver, and may allow you to arm yourself with another weapon, give you time to reload, or end the problem altogether.  This course provides successful outcomes when an enemy combatant gets inside the muzzle of your primary weapon.

This course is reality-based and does not resort to "Hollywood tactics" or martial arts fantasies. Instead, it is a "basic-through-advanced" course on effective, integrated real-world knife employment designed to prevail in the most brutal wartime environment there is:  close-quarters-combat against one or more of the enemy where edged weapons and the need to quickly overwhelm the enemy means the difference between life and death. 

This essential task training is:

• Conducted in BDUs and RBA/LBE.
• High intensity with safety protocols built-in to ensure a  training environment with few to no injuries--our goal is to intensively train your operators, soldiers, and Marines, and have them able to go to work the day following the course.
• Realistic for today's warrior--it is achievable for all troops and operators.
