TRAIN-THE-TRAINER format. Its focus is
upon training your agency trainer(s) in how to teach your officers
regarding all aspects of
carrying, deploying, utilizing, and employing the knife:

Safe
utility use:
Training in teaching how to safely use their knives to prevent
needless and possibly serious, even career threatening injuries in
every day situations. Worker's Comp injuries from knives are
avoided through proper utility use.

Safe emergency rescue use: Training in teaching how a victim is freed from
seatbelts or ligature is covered to prepare the officer for safely and
efficiently freeing a subject from their bonds without further injury.
Unless the situation is so pressing that additional lacerations are
reasonable, cutting a victim while freeing them may lead to needless
civil liability exposure.

Real world knife defense: Training in teaching how real
officers in the real world are really attacked with knives and other
edged weapons, then how to defend in the real world against these attacks
without martial arts, without complication, and without the need
for a professional fighter's abilities and attributes to be
successful. This training is intended for your average
officer to be successful in the worst-case scenario.

Reasonable "police" knife employment:
Teaching your trainers how to effectively train your officers to reasonably
employ the duty knife in the worst-situations (which is the only
justification for the police use of the knife) that is first, objectively reasonable, based upon the
totality of the circumstances known to the officer at the time, and
second, is justifiable in every post-use of force context there is.
We teach you "how to teach
how" use the
knife to save your life in a manner that is, in itself, justifies and
shows that your actions were reasonable based upon the offender's
actions, as well as the latest requirements in articulating that force
to survive both the criminal and civil processes that are sure to
follow the employment of the knife. Trainers become expert in
the justification and articulation of of force and deadly force.
 Our
twenty four-hour "Duty Knife Instructor: TRAIN-THE-TRAINER" course
provides instruction for those officers and trainers tasked with
training other officers to defend against deadly physical assault in
dire situations through a duty knife. The focus of the
course is first, training instructors in the best methods to increase
the chances of survival for the officer who finds him-/herself in the
worst defense situations possible, and also for the firestorm of
politics and legal aftermath that is sure to follow any knife
employment by police. In-depth explanations of why the
"Effective Combatives Problem-Solving,"© utilizing our
exclusive "Universal
Laws and Principles of Defense,"© are the basis of all
successful physical defense are offered, and the concepts are mastered
by the participant. Additionally,
instructor-candidates are presented and expected to practice the
latest in physical skills training theory and lesson plan
documentation, as well as up-to-the-minute civil liability defense
strategies for their officers. Documentation of force training, in
combination with all of the skills and mastery of the course topics,
sets this training apart from all others of its type.

highly structured in its concept, with each block of instruction
building on "Effective Combatives Problem-Solving"©
featuring the "Universal Rules and Principles of Defense."©
As the new instructor learns the concepts involved with general
Defensive Tactics, and then teaches it, that individual creates the
foundation for Real-World Police GroundDefense training. GroundDefense introduces
Real-World Weapon Retention on the Ground, then knife defense, both standing
and on the ground, and so on through the entire course.
We
prepare you and your officers by utilizing drills that deeply embed
and condition a "Threat Recognition Response.©"
All physical assault on officers are foreshadowed by threat cues by
the suspect. Recognizing these warning signs early and
responding to them effectively is the key to surviving. These
specialized drills, found no where else, quickly provides you with the
skills to quickly recognize a developing threat, with the skills and
decision-making processes to problem-solve a solution to any defense
need.
This course teaches a comprehensive defensive tactics system to your
instructors. Why? Because your officers require a "real
world" orientation to their training in support of being able to defend
against the most vicious assaults against their lives. The
Defensive Tactics, based upon the Universal Defense Systems program of
Real-World Defense Countermeasures, provides the basic foundations
needed to understand how to even begin to think of when and how to
solve the problem of surviving against an on-going, overwhelming
attack where the employment of the knife would be reasonable.
This training provides Real-World Police GroundDefense training, because so
many of the situations calling for the use of a knife take place on
the ground, and Real-World Weapon Retention training, so your
instructors can orient your officers and recruits to the actual needs
they will have if they are faced with this type of attack.
The
bottom line in this training course is to teach the officer to
problem-solve any defense situation, to understand when the use of
deadly force is justified, when the knife is the only solution to
their problem of surviving the next moment or two, and how to
articulate and justify their force decisions should the need to employ
the knife occur.
Safe
utility in the use of the knife during common cutting tasks is a
necessary job task training topic. Simply by safely opening and
closing the knife, as well as how to safely utilize the knife will
save Workers Comp claims. Additionally, in emergency life-saving
situations, the use of a knife to free a victim must be safely employed
to prevent additional injuries to the victim, and potentially
disabling or even life-threatening injuries to the rescuer.
Knife
attacks in the real real world are not like they are taught in martial
arts schools and in police academies. For twenty years we have
investigated the specific circumstances in how officers are actually
attacked and injured or killed by a knife or cutting
instrument. Forget the silly 21-foot drills, "X-blocks," and
catching knife-hands in mid-strike. This training teaches your
trainers the real circumstances in which officers are attacked, and
the methods by which your officers--every single one of them--can
better their chances of defending and surviving against a
knife-assault.
This course
is the minimum required knowledge for agency trainers to effectively
and properly train officers to carry and utilize the knife.
